A CHOICE

Image
Our pastor, Craig Groeschel, is doing a series on "A Church That Pleases God".  Last week the message was on "Unity in the Church".  He asked:  If the enemy, Satan, wanted to destroy the church, what would he do?  How would he do it?  The answer was he would cause division from within.  The church would destroy itself.  That's why unity was so important to Jesus.  It was his prayer before the crucifixion.  I thought of another scenario. What if the enemy wanted to destroy your faith?  How would he do that?   He would probably send you a problem, a circumstance that was big.  Really big. Bigger than your view of God.  So big it would consume your thoughts, day and night, and eventually consume your life.  It would be something you could not fix or control.   Then he would send fear in your life.  "What if...."  That's what fear begins with.  He would confirm your fear because y...

Let's Do It Different

Image
What if we did it different this year? Let’s let the water stay under the bridge. Let’s forgive, God’s gift to us, and walk free. Let’s love that person the way Jesus does.   Let’s choose peace instead of being right.   Let’s breathe hope into each day and really believe that God is for us.   Let’s trust God with that circumstance that we can’t fix.   Let’s let God’s love drown out our fears and insecurities. Let’s frame those difficult things with God’s love.   Let’s believe Him for things bigger than us.   Let’s allow the present to speak louder than the past.   Let’s humble ourselves and let God be our Master.   Let’s let ourselves be joyful and lay everything down for a minute. Let’s listen for His voice first, our Wonderful Counselor.   Let’s experience the abundant life, full of His Presence & Power, knowing it glorifies Him.   Let’s watch with childlike wonder and see the great things He do...

THE MOMENT

Image
THE MOMENT The earth was quiet, the night was still, the animals had all bedded down. The stars, He called each one by name, cast pinhole light to the ground. The rocks had cried out, the oceans roared, the mountains thundered from above. They held their breath as God bent down and breathed life into His Greatest Love. This moment in time changed the moments in time from that moment to the end of time. He would heal the broken hearted, set the captives free and give back sight to the blind. He was the bridge between God and man He came to seek and save the lost His amazing grace and unending love would willingly pay the cost. His Spirit would fill the entire earth You could literally seek His face Just come as you are, broken and all and receive His amazing grace. To belong to Him and walk with Him and have Him hold your hand When life whirls you around and throws you down He is your safe place to land. He talks with me, I hear His voice, He knows my hurt and pain...

PRICKLY PATCH

Image
I was having lunch in a Mexican Restaurant during the Fall Festival at Robbers Cave.  My cousin took this picture of a little Jesus that was in the hall by the restroom of the restaurant.  First of all, I love those little Jesus'.  They are popping up more and more in my life in the strangest places.  A friend gave me one to give to my grandson.  There was the one in the cabin at Robbers Cave in my grandsons' room above their bed.   I was thinking about this one.  Jesus is standing on a cactus.  It made me think of the "prickly patches" in our life.  Those are the things that we don't like but can't change.  Those are the things that cause us pain or hurt.  Those are the trials we go through that we didn't ask for.  Those are the relationships that are hard, the diagnosis we didn't expect, the future we thought we had but now don't.  Those are the financial problems that cause us stress.  They a...

CHICKEN SLINGERS

Image
Gosh the world has been heavy lately.  The news is always pretty heavy, politics, divisions, fighting, arguing, hating....it's been heavy.  I have some heavy prayer requests I am praying for some of my dear friends.  I was talking to a friend about this season of life and retirement.  I love having the gift of time to spend how I want but it can also be a season of loss.  Loss of friends, loss of health sometimes, loss of family, financial problems, sometimes crisis situations. I have some friends grieving some losses...health, dreams, spouses, their past.  It's heavy.   So when a sweet friend brought these three little guys to class Monday, I knew it was time to play!  These three little guys are rubber chicken finger slingshots.  We started shooting them across the room at each other before exercise class.  Some got stuck on the ceiling!  Some flew past people's hair.  Some hits were square on target!  Everyone...

BENDABLE JESUS

Image
A couple of weeks ago, our grandson had his heart set on a "bendable" Jesus AKA Jesus action figure.  I'm not sure what led up to it but he was determined to find one.  I told him there was a store in Tulsa that had a lot of Jesus toys and when we had time we would go to the "God Store" (Mardel ya'll) and get a bendable Jesus (like I knew what that was).  I assumed he would forget.  He didn't.  On the way to our house at 7:30 in the morning, he asked Papa if this was the day we were going to the God Store.  So we headed out on a field trip, We were walking across the parking lot to Mardel and I thought I better pray "Lord, your word says "seek and you will find" and we really need to find a bendable Jesus.  Amen."  I hadn't been to Mardel in years and in my mind it was like Target with rows and rows of toys.  We walked in and it was not anything like Target.  It had rows and rows of everything except toys.  There were a few t...

ANOTHER TRIP AROUND THE SUN!

I have a birthday coming up.   Not a big one.   Sixty-six.   Just a number really.   I usually don’t remember how old I am and have to stop and do the math and since I’m not a math person, it takes a minute!   I also have to pause and think about our class.   We have a ton of August birthdays this month.   We have several members from 81 to 89 years old in our class and believe me, you would never guess they are 80 anything.   They are up and running and I can’t keep up with some of them.   When you ask what their secret is (and I always do!), they will say family, their faith, exercise, being active, having a purpose.   They are calm, peaceful, fun people that seem to love life.   They have a sense of humor and love to laugh (there is a lot to laugh about in class – smile).   They always come in with a smile.   They are easy to be around.   They are easy to talk to.   They are wise and give me good advice. ...
